Zach Whitson's Counterpoint Tactical System
Ryer Martial Arts Academy is an
official Counterpoint Tactical System affiliate school under
Master Zach Whitson.
Zach
Whitson's Counterpoint Tactical System, also known by the
acronym CTS, is a weapon-based, mixed martial art. This hybrid
martial art includes
elements of Doce Pares Eskrima
and Eskrido, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, Jiu Jitsu, Silat
Serbatik, Wing Chun Kung Fu, and Kenpo Karate.
The purpose of the Counterpoint Tactical System is to train,
produce and certify students who are well versed in every phase
of civilian armed and unarmed combat.
Students will be
introduced to progressive categories of training. These categories
include empty hands training; including striking, stand-up
grappling, and ground fighting; also weapons tactics such as single
and double stick, single and double knife, staff, spear, sword, and
finally stick and dagger also known as espada y daga.
Although
CTS includes the tactics of other disciplines,
it holds the Filipino martial arts as its base. Filipino
martial arts have always been a mix of fighting disciplines.
Most systems contain some degree of “Panatukan” a punching
and street boxing method; “Dumog” a specialized
grappling method; “Sikaran”
a unique kicking and stomping method; and "Pangamot"
to fight against blunt weapons with only your empty hands.
